Do not, I repeat - do not ever develop against ffmpeg!!!

Do not, I repeat - do not ever develop against ffmpeg!!!

Ffmpeg "development team" is hell bent on breaking compatibility with old code. Whenever their superior intelligence detects what they consider broken code, even if it works perfectly well for applications, they will

  1. Rename the method
  2. Remove the old one
The list goes on, but the top of the iceberg was just scratched by sgros at

He writes:

"Well, I have some code that uses some old FFMPEG library, and now, as I updated my laptop to Fedora 18, it turns out that those functions are gone for good. I found some resources about how to port old code (here, here and here), but since it wasn't what I needed I decided to write my own version."

Hear, hear, Stjepan! Ffmpeg killed Kino DV when the author felt he could no longer cope with the volume of API changes. Kino is not the only one, apparently.

Way to go, ffmpeg! Get'em!
